According to new allegations from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a two-decade sentence for sex-trafficking crimes, is allegedly readying a clemency request for consideration by the presidential administration.

Preferential Handling Claimed at Correctional Facility

House Democrats on the judicial oversight panel revealed that a source provided evidence indicating Maxwell is preparing the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the minimum-security facility in Texas.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House judiciary committee, stated in a official statement that the facility's chief was “helping” Maxwell with copying, printing, and sending documents to support her bid for clemency.

The exact content of the “commutation application” remain unclear, Raskin added.

Alleged Privileges and Custom Arrangements

Raskin states that, per the insider, Maxwell has been receiving “customized” meals that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the warden has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for her and her visitors.

The visits reportedly involve a designated private space for visitors and “an assortment of snacks and refreshments” for her associates.

Maxwell’s visitors were also reportedly permitted to bring computers, which Raskin described as an “unprecedented action” given the potential danger and chance of unmonitored communications.

In one alleged instance, when communications failed for other inmates, Maxwell was given specific instructions about who she should tell her associates to call and how personnel would relay the call to her.

Supervisor Acting as Assistant

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to examine and modify papers promptly, she “essentially used” the official as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The statement indicates that those writing to her would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to the inmate, for her to examine and change and provide them back to the warden to scan and provide to the initial correspondent.

Additional Privileges Reported

Further perks allegedly granted to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a perk not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as private after-hours access to the prison exercise area.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

In a statement, the presidential office said that it “does not comment” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning the convict is not something he has thought about,” the spokesperson added.

Context and Developments

Recently, it was reported that Maxwell told close associates in emails from prison that she was more content at the Texas facility than her previous prison.

In August, Maxwell was transferred from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in Texas, where most inmates are incarcerated for financial and non-violent crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was questioned about the Epstein case by the senior justice official, the official, who also once acted as the President's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the administration was facing increasing scrutiny to disclose additional files related to the Epstein investigation and amid intense speculation around Trump's own connections to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Congressional Response

Through the statement, the congressman also revealed that he had dispatched a communication to Trump, demanding answers about the insider's claims, and called on the chief executive to deny the clemency appeal.

“You should not grant any form of clemency to this convicted and unrepentant criminal,” the representative stated in the document. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with federal law enforcement officials attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

The congressman asked that the official appear for a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to Trump.

Raskin asked whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with Blanche or others, whether he had instructed Blanche or anyone else to arrange her with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in detention, and whether Maxwell, her lawyers, relatives or representatives have made any commitments to the President or his attorneys.

Raskin has asked for a response to the inquiries by 24 November.

In October, the US supreme court declined to hear an appeal from the convict on her trafficking verdict.
